Cuban President Receives Invitation to Participate in Upcoming BRICS Summit

Cuban Embassador in Moscow, Julio Garmendia Peña, announced on Thursday that the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, was invited to the next BRICS summit, which will be held in the Russian city of Kazan from October 22 to 24.

For his part, the Cuban Head of State have not confirmed his participation in the event, according to the informed by Garmendia Peña.
Díaz Canel have formerly participated in other BRICS Summits, like the Johannesburg’s, South Africa on August, 2023, the first time the Cuban president participated on a top BRICS leaders meeting.
In that occasion, Díaz Canel expressed the importance of the multi-lateral block, highlighting the “opportunity to generate a historic transformation. For the benefit of future generations.”
The Cuban president praised the BRICS by saying that this “opens up expectations and hopes on the way to strengthening multilateralism which is today as urgent as it is essential for the very fate of humanity.”
The current BRICS members are: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
At the next summit in 2024, the BRICS will make important decisions on dedollarisation and boosting local currencies.
